Report on the Situation of the Philippines and

the Work against War and Militarism

The Philippines, long considered a strategic ally of the US and having enormous China northwest just across the China Sea feels the effect of US’s increasing militarization of the region as the people are likewise experiencing its state’s own brand of militarism.  The US’s pivot to Indo-Asia-Pacific as a part of its effort to remain the only superpower in the world and China’s rush to develop its armed forces to defend and continue to advance its economic and political gains in the region and in the whole world are the two big factors that drive other Asia Pacific to procure modern military equipment and build stronger armed forces.  These are not giving security and peace the Filipino people.

The Weakening US Power and the Rise of Its Perceived Rivals Have Led the US to the direction of Broadening and Intensifying Wars and Armed Interventions.

The worsening attacks on people’s livelihoods, the disregard for their needs, even the neglect for public infrastructure and the overall privation that the crisis brought about caused social tensions and tensions between peoples and states

The widespread poverty while a very few people control so much wealth and the continuing attacks on their right to descent lives drive workers and other people to struggle, to defend and advance their interests.  Finance capital, however, has no tolerance nor concern for such values as freedom, democracy, people’s rights, justice, the good of humanity.

Imperialism’s savagery, and the crisis and war that it imposes on mankind, have engendered ultra-rightist, ultra-reactionary responses—ultra-nationalism and racism, and religious fundamentalism.  Though US imperialism fanned and in some cases supported these in pursuit of its narrow interests, these tendencies, under conditions created by crisis and war, have now assumed their own dynamics. Ultra-nationalism and racism (which in history, Nazism most clearly exemplified), and the terroristic Islamic fundamentalism, both breeds fanaticism and hegemony. They, too are intolerant of the values trampled upon by imperialism. They can match finance capitalisms’ savagery.

The refugee crisis, an off-shoot on the interventionist wars promoted by US with the support of European big powers, is now threatening the one-Europe track.   It is revolting that the governments that supported that interventions that created the refugee crisis have taken the strongest position against the refugees.
