2015년은 한국의 광복 70주년이자 강대국에 의해 분단된 지 70년이 되는 해입니다. 국제사회는 더 이상 세계 유일의 냉전 분단 지역인 한반도의 국민들이 겪어온 비극의 고통을 외면해서는 안 됩니다. 비무장지대는 전 세계에서 가장 많이 무장화된 위험한 갈등지역으로서 한반도 분단의 상징입니다.

인권에 가장 중요한 요소는 평화와 안정입니다. 2015년은 또한 <여성, 평화와 안보에 관한 유엔 안전보장이사회 결의 1325>가 유엔에서 채택된 지 15년이 되는 해입니다. 이 결의문은 “갈등 예방과 해결, 그리고 평화 구축 과정에서 여성의 완전한 참여”를 요구하고 있습니다. 따라서 ‘평화와 군축을 위한 세계여성의 날’인 오늘 5월 24일, 우리 여성은 한반도 역사의 새로운 장을 여는데 뜻을 함께 하는 남북한 및 전 세계 각지에서 모인 이들과 함께 걷습니다. 새로운 역사는 대화와 화해, 상호 이해와 존중, 평화로운 공동번영으로 채워질 것입니다. 우리가 걷는 목적은 다음과 같습니다.

l 1953년에 체결된 정전협정 4조 60항에 규정되어 있는 바와 같이 정전협정을 평화협정으로 대체한다.

l 인위적인 분단으로 인한 비극적인 이산가족의 재결합을 돕는다.

l 한반도의 군사적 긴장을 완화한다.

l 전 세계인들에게 무고한 시민에게 해를 끼치는 제재조치를 철회할 것을 호소한다.

l 여성과 소녀에 대한 전시 폭력을 금지시키고, 제2차 세계대전의 성노예였던 ‘위안부’ 여성들을 위한 정의를 바로 세운다.

l 군비 경쟁에 소요되는 비용을 시민의 복지와 환경 보호에 사용되도록 한다.

l 국제법에 따라 한반도와 전 세계의 평화구축 과정에서 여성의 리더십을 확대시킨다.

l 세계평화구축의 주춧돌로서 한반도의 화해와 통일을 위해 전 세계인들의 지지를 촉구한다.

이에 우리는 한반도의 화해와 평화통일, 그리고 세계의 항구적인 평화와 안전을 지원할 것을 천명합니다. 한반도의 평화와 통일을 위한 국제여성평화걷기 참여자들은 풀뿌리 여성조직을 비롯한 모든 한반도 여성들과 함께 상기 목적들이 완전하게 이루어질 때까지 함께 할 것입니다.

Whereas the year 2015 marks the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Korea and also the 70th year since Korea was divided by outside forces;

Whereas the tragedy suffered by the Korean people, the only nation to remain divided as a result of the Cold War, can no longer be ignored by the global community;

Whereas the Demilitarized Zone is one of the most militarized and dangerous conflict areas in the world and the symbol of Korean division;

Whereas peace & stability is an important foundation for human rights;

Whereas the year 2015 also marks the fifteenth anniversary of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security which calls for the "full participation of women in the peace process," including in the prevention and resolution of conflicts, and in peace-building;

Therefore, on this day, May 24, International Women’s Day for Peace and Disarmament, we women, from North and South Korea and around the world, are walking to invite all concerned to begin a new chapter in Korean history, one marked by dialogue, reconciliation, mutual understanding & respect, and peaceful co-prosperity. As such, we are walking to:

- Call for the official end of the Korean War by replacing the 1953 Armistice Agreement with a peace treaty as stipulated in Article 4 Paragraph 60;

- Help reunite Korean families tragically separated by an artificial, unwanted division;

- Lessen military tensions on the Korean peninsula;

- Appeal to the international community to lift sanctions that harm innocent civilians;

- Decry wartime violence toward women and girls and bring justice for the “comfort women” who survived sexual slavery during WWII;

- Redirect funds devoted to the arms race toward improving people’s welfare and protecting the environment;

- Amplify women’s leadership in the peacebuilding process in Korea and around the world in accordance with international law; and

- Challenge the world to support Korea’s reconciliation and reunification as a cornerstone of building world peace.

We, hereby, declare our commitment to support the desires of the Korean people and all people of conscience around the world, to work towards a peaceful reconciliation and reunification of the Korean peninsula for a lasting peace and security in Korea and the world. By working together with Korean women at all levels, particularly from the grassroots, the International Women’s Walk for Peace and Reunification of Korea, mindful of Korean women’s right to determine the future of a peaceful Korea, will continue its work until these aims are fully achieved.
